In our grey hometown of Auckland city there is a curious store known as Wunderkammer on Ponsonby Rd. Adorned with taxidermy, select antiques and objects du’jour from around the world, it has always been a delight to visit. Last night the delight extended after hours with the opening of a new gallery space in the place of the old workroom a few doors along. With all the charm of the store this space has been curated in a quirky considered fashion allowing artwork to take its breathing space alongside collections from Comme and Demeulemeester. The lovely Kim Wise presented new and old works under the working title ‘Deadwood’ last night and I look forward to presenting all new works there (a sample above) on September the first.
